In May 2025, oil production among OPEC member countries recorded a 0.9% month-on-month increase, reaching a total of 27.8 million barrels per day. This growth was primarily driven by higher output from Saudi Arabia and the UAE, highlighting their critical role in balancing global energy markets.

According to data from the International Energy Agency (IEA), Saudi Arabia remains the clear leader, producing 9.1 million barrels per day, accounting for nearly one-third of total OPEC output. Iraq followed with 4.2 million barrels per day, while Iran and the UAE produced 3.5 million and 3.4 million barrels per day respectively.
Other notable producers include:
Kuwait: 2.6 million barrels/day
Nigeria: 1.5 million barrels/day
Libya: 1.3 million barrels/day
Algeria: 0.9 million barrels/day
Venezuela: 0.8 million barrels/day
Gabon: 0.3 million barrels/day
Congo: 0.2 million barrels/day
Equatorial Guinea: 0.1 million barrels/day
The increase in May’s output comes amid a complex backdrop of global oil market dynamics — where production adjustments by OPEC can have significant implications for crude prices, supply stability, and energy policy decisions worldwide.
